The 220th AW was directed to perform airlift missions to transport relief goods and various equipment to calamity affected areas in Central Luzon brought about by Typhoon “Nina”. As mandated and in collaboration with other participating agencies, both private and government, Airlifters promptly responded to the directive of Higher headquarters to provide airlift services for the speedy transport of relief goods, personnel, and equipment in Virac, Legazpi and Naga. In fact, as early as 26 December 2016 and in the immediate aftermath of the typhoon, airlifters were the first to respond through the conduct of aerial surveys and delivery of supplies. The results of the survey were sent to the higher authorities for planning purposes. For the time being, the flight missions resulted to a total of more than 400,000 lbs of relief supplies and equipment delivered though with minor delays primarily due to lack of coordination among the entities involved. Some of these relief supplies came from Davao and were ferried to Manila to support the ongoing relief operations. Truly, the Wing was able to seize the “Golden Hour” of Disaster Response.
